Completions Engineer

Job Overview

N.L. Fisher is currently seeking a Completion Engineer reporting to the Vice President, Drilling & Completions. This is a permanent position based in Calgary.

Purpose of the Job

  • Provide completions engineering support services to internal and external NL Fisher customers
  • Support NLF standard operating procedure development

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Engineering and continuous improvement of all aspects of well design and field operations to achieve the corporate objective of being the top percentile performance provider in each core area.
  • Assist design of well completion, work over and abandonment programs with various required technical analyses (e.g. wellbore and trajectory, tubular design and conveyance modeling) to achieve optimal design through the well life cycle.
  • Design Completion programs and provide technical engineering advice to achieve corporate objectives.
  • On-call superintendent of completion, workover and abandonment operations      
  • Research offsetting wells
  • Provide regulatory reviews, opinions and obtain approvals as required
  • Oversee Standard Operating Procedure specification library. Lead new SOP development

Skills, Certification & Experience

Basic Skills

  • Self-starter with a good attitude
  • Demonstrate operational efficiency
  • Cost Tracking and Validation (AFE Balance, Vendor Invoice Approvals)
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Strong drilling design background and understanding of drilling process
  • Knowledge of drilling in-field practices
  • Familiar with all relevant regulatory codes and standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent inter-personal and relationship-building skills

Education & Certification

  • Post-Secondary Engineering or Technology degree
  • Require IRP-7 Compliant Tickets (Well Service BOP, Coil Tubing BOP, SARA,1st Aid Level B, H2S, TDG & WHMIS)
  • Eligible for professional registration as a professional engineer in Canada

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of completions experience
  • Engineering experience that includes new well completions, existing well workovers, well suspensions, and well abandonments
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential; familiarity with Wellman or WellView, and IHS Accumap

  • External customers in co-ordination with sales team
  • Contractors, vendors, suppliers – project management

Magnitude/Scope of Responsibility

  • Responsible to manage engineering budgets for specific projects

Work Environment

  • Office setting
  • Field travel a requirement as directed by supervisor
