Position: Drilling Supervisor

NL Fisher is currently looking for Drilling Supervisors for our operations. The Drilling Supervisor, reporting to the Drilling Superintendent, will be responsible for supervision, direct drilling preparation, operation and support of programs that satisfy the objectives of the wells. NL Fisher is looking for Supervisors with experience in the following formations: Cardium, Duvernay, Montney, Viking, Manville, Glauc, and Ostrascod. 

Expectations

The Drilling Supervisor is accountable for leading, supervising and implementing the flawless execution of safe, compliant and reliable well operations in accordance with NL Fisher policies, standards and core competencies of Safety, Accuracy and Efficiency. 

We are looking for someone who is well-versed in drilling fluids, cementing operations, drill string design, pore pressure/fracture pressure determination; bit selection, hydraulics and dull grading; directional drilling, coring, completions and fishing. The successful candidate will be well equipped to consider the various product lines and ensure the optimum approach is taken. You will have a thorough understanding of rig systems (Lifting, Rotating, Circulating, Power and Pressure Control).

The Drilling Supervisor must set high expectation for HSE compliance at all times. This includes a constant focus on HSE in all operations and a willingness to shut down operations when conditions warrant. Additionally, you will conduct safety meetings, job safety analysis (JSA), risk reviews, safety stand downs, etc.

Although a degree is not necessary for this position, the successful candidate must have substantial oil industry experience and applicable well site supervisory experience. Valid well control certifications and appliacable tickets for drilling, workover and well services activity are absolutely essential and mandatory.

We expect you to be a proven team leader and strong communicator who will work collaboratively to advance the project. A well-developed planning and analytical problem solving approach is required. You must also have good oral and written English communication skills. Fluency in other applicable languages is a plus.

Key Accountabilities

  • Take calls from field operations.
  • Update operations report to NLF standards.
  • Order spud loads and coordinate with drilling foreman
  • Conduct field trips when necessary and to trouble shoot issues
  • Review field paperwork daily to ensure accuracy
  • Review specific technical programs as required to ensure proper field execution
  • Be familiar with pricing
  • Learn how to run field software and teach it to others
  • Share duties with cross shift Supervisors as required
  • Work in an On Call 24hr rotation
  • Manage drilling, well testing and well service contractors to ensure quality of service
  • Complete loss and incident reports on a timely basis as per NLF standards
  • Ensure that all reportable incidents are lodged within the required time scale
  • Agree and expedite corrective actions resulting from any incident and accident report
  • Ensure that all legislative requirements of the operation are complied with
  • Work planning and scheduling including preparation of work and equipment forecasts
  •  Control of material, equipment and personnel at the work site to ensure the efficient completion of the work
  • Liaising with well test/production engineers on test/well service requirements.
  • Input to final well reporting and well assessment
  • Carry out morning and other operational calls with Drilling Superintendent
  • Accountable for performing all duties with due regard to the health, safety of self, others and of the environment in which they are undertaken
  •  Accountable for achieving well construction objectives
  • Responsible for control of the wells being constructed to ensure due care of personnel, equipment and the environment
  • Provides day-to-day on-site leadership and supervision of drilling, completions and work over operations
  • Responsible for strict adherence to all Company systems, procedures, standards safety rules and regulations by an Company personnel and contractors on-site
  • Responsible for clear and concise reporting of all well site drilling activities such as daily dulling reports, material transfers and safely meetings, and capture of lessons learned
  • Responsible for reporting, investigations and follow-up of accidents and near misses on-site
  • Responsible for performing site emergency plans and organizes regular emergency exercises and drills
  • Responsible tor rig moves and rig position with proper Risk assessment and mitigation plans
  • Primary contact with rig and third-party personnel at the rig site to ensure operations are performed in accordance with drilling program m a sale and cost-effective manner
  • Oversees and orders the necessary services and equipment la conduct operations
  • Ensures sale and timely return of equipment and surplus materials to Company stores upon completion of well operations
  • Responsible for HSE procedures being continuously enforced, and for making effective decisions in emergency situations
  • Ensures that safety regulations and practices are respected and followed by all personnel on rig site Including Contractor and Service Company employees
  • Ensures operations comply with the Standard Drilling Instructions (SDI) and Drilling Safety Instructions (DSI) Manuals and SIMOPS procedures
  • Regularly inspects rig and third-party equipment for adequate maintenance Maintains inventory of all equipment I materials ' supplies and spare parts and report on DDR
  • Ensures that safety drills/tests are conducted on rig site as per company plan and procedures and reported Investigates accidents/incidents and follows-up on action plan until fully dosed
  • Liaises with Field Production for Island site inspections prior to rig move Ensures safe handover of well area of island at beginning and completion of drilling activities (SIUOPS)
  • Ensures assigned relief is well informed (hand-over notes) of current situation and agrees with plans developed / implemented
  • Ensure all instructions to Rig Manager is via written instructions
  • Ensures effectiveness of ensile risk assessments and implements mitigations and follow up actions
  • Monitors less experienced Drilling Supervisors and Engineers
  • Monitors security of operations and personnel
  • Reviews and maintains ongoing ERP

Qualifications

  • A minimum 5 years drilling experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with high volumes of paperwork and inventory.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a consistent manner.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
